Research and Outreach

PBA Applied Ecology are committed to delivering evidence led services to help protect and promote the natural world. To achieve this aim we are proud to be able to support a range of conservation and research initiatives. In partnership with some of the UK’s leading research institutions we strive to develop pioneering new technologies and survey methodologies to improve the services we are able to offer our clients. Through The Applied Ecology Trust, which is independent of the business, we have successfully enabled conservation initiatives throughout the local area.

We believe strongly in the conservation and betterment of the natural world that we work in, and strive to add value to the environment through the conception and delivery of pioneering conservation initiatives. We are hugely excited to see the ethos that PBA champion at each of our project sites formalised through the biodiversity net gain protocol, and are uniquely positioned to continue to promote biodiversity and ecological standards for our clients going forwards.

Examples of research and conservation initiatives we are currently working on include:

  • Applied research exploring new, cutting edge techniques to survey aquatic invasive species

  • Collaborative projects to protect threatened species across the Yorkshire Dales

  • Local community initiatives to increase nesting opportunites for woodland birds

  • Organising and leading community engagement events such as talks and guided walks

  • Hosting work experience students throughout the summer to help train the next generation of ecologists
