Ecology & Countryside Management Apprentice/Gap Year Student opportunity

Based in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, PBA Ecology works on projects across the UK, helping to protect wildlife, enhance habitats and support sustainable development. We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are keen to learn, develop practical skills and make a real difference.

Whether you're leaving school, taking a gap year or looking for an alternative to full-time university, this is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn alongside experienced ecologists.

What You'll Do

As an apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience by supporting a wide range of ecological and countryside management projects, including:

  • Surveying wildlife and habitats
  • Identifying plants, trees and protected species
  • Helping manage woodlands, rivers and grasslands
  • Planting trees and creating habitats for wildlife
  • Maintaining footpaths, fencing, gates and countryside infrastructure
  • Collecting environmental data and using digital mapping technology
  • Supporting conservation and biodiversity projects

No two days are the same, and you'll spend plenty of time working outdoors in a variety of locations.

We're looking for someone who has

  • A genuine passion for nature and the environment
  • Practical, hands-on skills and a willingness to learn
  • Good observation and attention to detail
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A positive attitude towards working outdoors in all weather conditions

Rain, wind, sunshine or muddy boots—nature doesn't stop, and neither do we!

Apprenticeship Pathways

Depending on your interests and experience, opportunities may include training towards roles such as:

  • Countryside Worker
  • Ecological Technician
  • Environmental Practitioner
